We have made it through the first two weeks!! The kids are adjusting, for the most part, and I am learning so much while adjusting, too. Each one of my students has brought back to school a new skill that they've learned over the summer and I love it.
We have spent the past couple of weeks learning schedules, exploring our new space, finding our rhythm, recalling information, and learning about Pronghorn Pride. We've all been very busy. Please, be patient with us while we find what works for your child! I believe in creative programming, so it takes time to find the right balance of support for each individual student. We want to make learning meaningful and rigorous without negative experiences. We will get there!
DCSD is moving to a new and amazing curriculum for SSN. The Unique Learning System and News2You will begin September 1. I am so excited to introduce this curriculum to your children! It's fun, it's educational and rigorous, and it is easily differentiate to fit the specific needs and goals for each student. September's theme: We Have Rights. This curriculum integrates reading, writing, vocabulary and word work, mathematics, and science/social studies activities which align with the Colorado Extended Evidence Outcomes and the Dynamic Learning Maps Essential Elements. The ULS curriculum will ensure that SSN students continue their education without learning gaps, as this curriculum is implemented K-12. Each activity follows our monthly theme. Expect to be hearing about rights, freedoms, documents, and government this month!
